So this past Monday, I was afforded the opportunity to attend a live taping of Oprah’s Life Class. It will air April 28 on the OWN network and it was AMAZING! Living in Chicago has so many perks including running into celebrities, a great night life and, in my opinion, one of the greatest perks is being next to Oprah.
The Life Class was discussing Dr. Phil’s new book, “Life Code” which talks about how we need to be aware of the people around us and their intentions as well as getting us to be the star in our own show. Far too often, we are busy with taking care of other people in our lives that we forget the most important person in the whole equation. The best advice I received from this talk was the fact that the best thing you can do for your friends and family is being the best you possible. It serves no one if you are tired, upset and unhappy all of the time. By being the best you, you help everyone.
Being a student at DePaul, this is very crucial. A lot of my friends are involved in numerous organizations and I find myself having to tell them often, that they need to take time to themselves. It probably doesn’t help that we all live in Chicago, a city that never sleeps We are always on the go and never seem to have time to ourselves. During the taping, Oprah asked the audience what are some ways that we can be happy in our own lives and I wanted to share those with you. As you go on to whatever journey you may choose, the road will get difficult BUT just because something is hard does not mean that you will not be able to get through it. Here are some tips on what you can do to relax and enjoy life:
-Find a hobby that you enjoy, preferably something mindless so that you’re not stressing too much on doing it correctly.
-Meditate. Get rid of the phone, iPad and laptop and just sit in silence.
-Spend quality time with the people you love. Get away from work and just talk about life.
Being behind the scenes at Harpo Studios was such a great experience! Being a part of a live studio audience was one of the things on my bucket list to do before I graduate and I encourage everyone to create a bucket list of things to do before you get to DePaul. Make the rest of your life, the best of your life by doing what you love and loving what you do!
