As you read in my last post, this has been a pretty crazy reading season. However, for the moment, I have a little break from the phone calls and emails to blog.

Our regular notification deadline has been extended to Feb. 5th (originally it was Feb. 1st). This gives you even more time to finish up your applications. I strongly encourage anyone interested in applying to do so before this deadline. After that deadline, we review applications on a "space-available basis" meaning any additions to our freshman class are going to be extremely limited at that point.

With everything that is going on in the admission cycle and in the university, it's easy to become oblivious to the world around me. However, as many of us have seen in the media, the recent earthquake in Haiti has affected millions of people's lives in that country and left hundreds of thousands dead or injured.

People all over have given their time and money to help the people of Haiti. Even on our very own DePaul campus, several student organizations have rallied together to help these people in need. It's one of the things I admire about our student body. There is never a need for prompting students to give back...they just do. 
                           
One benefit event coming up this Saturday is called "Sing for Haiti!" It's being organized by my old acappella group, DePaul Men's a Cappella (DMaC). While the mission of this group is to entertain, they are never far off from the Vincentian mission with frequent performances at nursing homes, homeless shelters and last year's Vincentian Service Day. For this particular event, 100% of the funds raised will be matched by UNICEF and sent to provide emergency aid to Haiti. For more information, check out their Facebook event. The performance will be in the Lincoln Park Student Center on Saturday at 7PM.
