One of the perks about going to DePaul is that you have a Winter Break that is six weeks long. As we currently are in winter break, I want to tell you that even though six weeks sounds great, you need to know a few things about a break of this magnitude.
First of all, six weeks is a lot! I know after not seeing your friends from home, you expect that you will spend all six weeks partying and hanging out with them; but sadly, your friends are probably still in school or can’t hang out 24/7. Once the initial shock of being home sets in and you start getting bored, you get what I like to call the Winter Break Crazies. You start freaking out because you have an entire month of nothing to do.
Now you have two options. One, you can accept your fate and waste the month playing video games and eating hot pockets; but, if you choose option two you can make the month useful by making goals for the month. This is a great way to keep you from sitting in your house all day. It also makes you feel good about what you accomplished over break. For example, one of my goals was to make a game plan for the rest of college. This included deciding when I wanted to study abroad, do internships, and take classes. Something that DePaul offers on Campus Connect is a “Plan” section where you can put all the classes you want to take in the quarters you want to take them. It is a very cool tool that is a great way to get your college classes organized.
As Christmas nears, don’t go crazy. Have a great one!
